COVID-19: Protect Yourself in 6 Easy Steps

COVID-19: Protect Yourself in 6 Easy Steps

By Marnina Delahanty At Asurea, we’re all about simple solutions that reduce your stress.  With fear mounting about Coronavirus (COVID-19) we thought it better to narrow down the most effective ways to avoid it instead of catastrophizing about how bad it could get.  Who better to turn to for up-to-the-minute advice than the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention?

Step 1:  Wash your hands!

The CDC recommends frequent hand washing to avoid spreading COVID-19 and many other communicable illnesses.  The trick is to wash for the entire time it takes to sing, “Happy Birthday.” (And no speed-singing allowed!)  You can also use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer to kill germs. Alternating here and there between methods covers all bases.

Step 2:  Maintain a 3-Foot Distance From Anyone Coughing or Sneezing!

The tiny liquid droplets released when coughing and sneezing can spread illnesses, COVID-19 among them.  Whether you breathe them in, or they land on a surface you then touch, this spray is best avoided. 3 feet apart should do the trick.

Step 3:  Stop Touching Your Face!

This one’s harder said than done.  Specifically, avoid the impulse to touch your eyes, nose, and/or mouth.  Think of these as illness entry points.

Step 4:  Practice “Respiratory Hygiene!”

“Respiratory hygiene” simply means cough into your elbow or a tissue if it’s available.  Then, of course, dispose of the now-contaminated tissue right away.

Step 5:  Seek Medical Care Early!

You get no tough-guy points for postponing a visit to your medical provider until you’re miserable.  If you have a cough, fever, and difficulty breathing, get medical attention early! And alert the front office staff of your symptoms so they can take appropriate measures to give you the care you need while protecting others from potential contagions.

Step 6:  Stay Informed and Follow Your Healthcare Professionals’ Advice!

Be careful where your information comes from.  Reliable sources include your medical practitioner, and local and national public health authorities. Following these steps, we can protect ourselves and turn our focus back to the business of life. We never know what life’s going to throw at us.  Before it’s too late, call Asurea, and relax into peace of mind. 916-888-1807 or 800-689-5490 x121
