Stores Offer Special Hours to Protect Vulnerable Customers From Coronavirus

By Marnina Delahanty Asurea focuses on productive messaging, especially in these strange times.  So, we’re sharing helpful actions stores are taking against the spread of COVID 19.

Special Hours Protect Vulnerable Customers

Stores throughout the nation are starting to dedicate special hours to vulnerable customers  in order to protect them from COVID 19. Seniors and those who are more susceptible to infection are welcome to shop during specific hours reserved for them.  Methods vary, but participating stores share the objective of reducing exposure. At a time when panic shopping has depleted supplies, at-risk groups are at a particular disadvantage.  Between preventing exposure and product shortages, these groups find themselves in a double bind. But nation-wide chain stores are starting to take action to alleviate this problem, at least to some extent.  For local options, contact your preferred stores.

 Acme, Albertsons, Safeway and Vons

The Albertsons Group, including Acme, Safeway, and Vons, totaling over 2,200 stores, is reserving its first two hours of operations every Tuesday and Thursday for vulnerable shoppers.  They specify senior citizens, pregnant women, and those with compromised immune systems. They clarify the program is meant to serve those “who have been advised to avoid leaving home as much as possible.”

Target

Target, too, is moving to protect customers.  Its more than 1,800 stores will, “reserve the first hour of shopping each Wednesday at stores nationwide for vulnerable guests,” the company said.  They added the organization is “encouraging other guests to plan their shopping trips around this timeframe.”

Walmart

On Tuesday, 3/24/20, Walmart will launch an hour-long senior shopping session.  The event will be held every Tuesday for customers 60 and over. The hour will start just before their 5,000 stores open, and is scheduled up to April 28, at which time they’ll reassess to see if circumstances warrant an extension of the policy.
